Director
Kain brings 20 years’ experience in the public and private strategic land management sector across a broad range of areas including policy, planning, community engagement and project management. Kain is a very highly regarded trails consultant and has a strong interest in the provision of sustainable trails and recreational opportunities in natural areas.
An experienced project manager, Kain possesses excellent skills in complex project management. With high level organisational and leadership skills, he has demonstrated sound abilities in strategic and project planning, procurement, implementation and evaluation, risk and financial management, policy and advocacy.
Kain has a long history delivering the full suite of trail related products and projects across Australia. He has conducted detailed trail feasibility studies and concept plans, trail planning and design reports, trail audits and condition assessments, sign planning and managed multiple permit and construction processes.
A natural communicator and collaborator Kain is able to confidently build relationships and rapport with a wide cross section of individuals and organisations. He has worked across many partnerships, developing strong strategic collaborations to strengthen initiatives and outcomes. Kain possesses a strong work ethic with a high level of integrity and commitment to best practice management. Kain believes his success in getting the right outcomes for land managers and the community is attributed primarily to the importance he places on communication and engagement with stakeholders. Kain has developed strong and trusting working relationships and has demonstrated acute political awareness and emotional intelligence earning the respect of stakeholders, his colleagues and clients.
Kain started Open Trails Australia (OTA) to provide unbiased and independent trail consultancy services to industry and advocates. OTA works with tourism, landscape architects, land managers, clubs and the construction industry. OTA works closely with the client to ensure that the scope of will deliver on the project outcomes. There are no templates, every individual project with the Open Trails Australia consultancy is tailored to suit the client’s needs.
Kain continues to lead the development of trail facilities as the industry, trends and technology develops and changes. He has developed a rapidly growing reputation as a leader in field and is sought after by land managers Nationally to provide independent and objective advice. OTA are specifically insured to provide trail and land management consultancy services and advice to government agencies and land/trail managers.
